How to Pick an Engagement Ring

Cubic Zirconia Engagement Ring

So, you’re thinking about popping the big question! Congratulations, it’s a big step and your head is probably spinning with questions. Will they say yes? What kind of ring should I propose with? Where should I propose? What will I say? While we don’t have the answers to all of these questions, we do have the answers to one. We’ll answer all of your questions on how to pick an engagement ring so keep reading.

How can I find out my partner's ring size?

This is a great question. One of the best ways to measure your partner's ring size is to take a piece of their existing rings and measure that way. You can download our free paper ring sizer to help you measure this, or you can order our jeweler-grade ring sizer for a more accurate measurement.

If your s.o. doesn’t have any rings to measure with or if you’re still not sure, you can always use the guessing method. You can always guesstimate their ring size with either the paper sizer or the plastic sizer to the best of your ability. If after the proposal you find out the ring doesn’t fit, we offer hassle-free exchanges for a $25 restocking fee.

What width should I pick?

As you probably already know, engagement rings come in various widths depending on what you’re looking for. So how do you know what width ring you should pick for your fiance to be?

Start by considering their hand and finger size. If you think a more narrow band would compliment them, go with either a 1.5mm width ring like The Medusa, or a 4mm band like the Black Meteorite. If you think they’ll prefer a wider band, go with a 6mm band or an 8mm band.

Has your partner ever dropped any hints?

Think back to any past conversations about whether or not your significant other has ever dropped any hints about what type of jewelry they like. Do they like gold, or is that a metal they tend to stay away from? Is silver more their jam? Whatever their preference, try to tailor your pick around their taste!

Pick their ring based on a hobby or interest!

Our owner and head ring designer, Caleb, has poured his soul into thinking of creative designs and ways to integrate hobbies and interests into Thorum rings. From skateboarding to guitar, to history and war, we have a ring that can pretty much suit anyone. If your honey is passionate about something, chances are we have a ring to represent it.

Pick a ring that they’ll cherish and love forever. Not only does your wedding ring represent your love, but it should also represent a piece of the person wearing it.
